Grab Some Tea and Most Comfiest Socks, We’re About to Get Relaxed!
With everything happening in the world, we all need some time in our day, or even week, to wind down. I usually like to incorporate a mix of things into my evening routine, especially if I’m trying to stay relaxed. Nice smelling candles, a warm bath, and anything vanilla scented is definitely my go-to.
I wasn’t able to take many things with me during our move because we weren’t sure when we’d be finding a permanent place to live, in addition to not wanting to weigh down the car during those 5 days.
Seeing it with a glass half full, I think it’s a good and bad thing.
Bad because now I don’t have all of my essentials and have to re-buy a good amount of them but also good since I’m able to start fresh.
I love spending time to pamper myself, but sadly don’t do it enough. I’m trying to get better, though! I may not have the crème de la crème when it comes to products, but that does not mean I don’t know how to throw myself a nice little pamper party a few times out of the week.
Here are a few ways you can, too!

Set the ambiance
I don’t have a traditional work schedule, so Wednesday’s are basically your Fridays. I like to take advantage of my free time and *try* to get my life together. I don’t know about you guys, but work makes it hard to wind down sometimes.
I always have to squeeze in my skincare routines in the evening after work so when I’m off, I like to take my time. If you live in the PNW, you’ll know how gloomy it gets around this time of year. Not only does it get gloomy, but it gets dark quick.
I like to add some lighting, but nothing too bright since we’re winding down here.
Right now, my Christmas tree is helping us keep a calm atmosphere, but feel free to add some nice-smelling candles to really set the scene. Normally, if I’m not using candles then you’ll almost always find me burning incense.
I love incense for cleansing the home and just creating a more vibrant space filled with positive energy.
Truth be told, I’m pretty sensitive to smells so I used to really hate incense at first, but my mom lives by it so I slowly started getting used to it and now I love it, too!
As I’m winding down, I like to put on Spotify and listen to my favorite music or podcasts. Usually, I work better in complete and total silence, but since moving, the silence does more damage than good sometimes.
Instead, I’ve been catching up with Podcasts that I’ve been too busy to keep up with over the summer and during my move.
Strangely enough, the familiar voices of Tyler Oakley and Aaron Mahnke make me feel a lot better!
Listening to podcasts is one of my favorite things to do when showering, doing my skincare routine or anything in-between to pass the time.
Here are some I’ve been loving lately…
Most of the time getting comfy is at the top of my list, but since I work from home I’m usually pretty comfy to begin with. Sometimes creating that work/life balance is hard, but once it hits 6pm – I’m out and ready to get comfy-er! Typically after work, to help me unwind even more I’ll take a nice, hot shower.
I don’t know about you guys, but I love exfoliating.
Now that that weather is starting to get a bit chillier (at least for me!) I need to be moisturizing my skin at all times.
I currently use cocoa butter, but also love doing DIY scrubs. Sugar scrubs and coffee scrubs are my favorite – and are amazing for your skin!
This scrub above is perfect and so *cute*! Coffee grinds or sugar with coconut oil and even your favorite essential oil will make for the most perfect (and cheapest) body scrub!
A robe has been in my wishlist since forever, you guys. Definitely going to be finding myself one of those plushy, super comfy looking robes – or maybe even a silk one!
If you have nice little slippers, this would be the time for you to take them out your closet!
Also, with the holiday’s coming – bring out your jolliest PJ set, too.
Once I’ve completely taken myself out of work-mode, I like to talk to my mom over the phone and browse the Internet for a bit.
This usually leads me into some blogging vortex, so I spend some time on that before getting started on dinner. Tonight we ordered pizza and I’m honestly living.
I’ve been loving ending my nights with a nice, warm cup of tea or hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course!) so I try to do that to help me get ready for bed.
Winding down each evening and trying to unplug just a little bit is extremely helpful for both your mind and body.
One thing each day…
I’m going to be honest. It’s taken me forever to actually work my way towards a somewhat efficient evening/pampering routine.
I think the hardest (and most important) part of building a routine is being consistent.
Before moving, I would try to add something new to my day-to-day almost every single day and I would beat myself up if I wasn’t sticking to a schedule.
Since then, I’ve learned that although routines take consistency, they also take time. As time goes on and we’re sticking *as close* as possible to our set routines, we’re able to learn what does and doesn’t work.
I’ve learned that forcing myself into a routine doesn’t work for me. I need to really want to be into whatever it is that I’m adding to my life.
However, I will say this – what does stick to you routine will feel amazing every day you do it!
Yoga and meditation is something I love, love, love.
Unfortunately, like many things we love in our life, I just don’t make the time for it.
Lately, I’ve had this extra amount of energy that needs to be exhausted some way or another. I know for a fact if I were to practice yoga each evening and meditate at least every morning and night, I’d be a brand new person.
I know this because I’ve done it and saw amazing results almost immediately.
Meditating always makes me feel so good and really helped me a lot with my anxiety at the time. If you can add even just 5 to 10 minutes in your day to meditate, you’ll get what I mean. The thing with meditating is that it helps you learn moderation and how it works with your body.
I’ve heard of people meditating just 5 minutes every day and seeing life-long benefits so it’s definitely worth a try!
You know when you’re doing really awesome at keeping up a routine and then life (like always) gets in the way? Sometimes it’s just so hard to pick yourself back up until one day, you finally get fed-up and get back at it again. That’s something that would happen to me all the time.
Staying inspired and motivated is hard – I’m not going to lie.
Having my own space has made me realize that in order to stay motivated, you have to not just be consistent but you have to incorporate different aspects in your life that will inspire you.
I’m a home decor junkie so I would love some plants in my home.
Not only will plants inspire growth but they also bring in tons of natural lighting and brighten up your home.
If you live in a gloomy area like me, it’s easy to just want to nap right when you get out of work but having some sort of light to your home will make you want to stay motivated.
In addition to plants, artwork and cutesy decor helps for staying inspiring.
I stay home all day so staring at white walls drives me nuts!
Adding little things on the wall or around your space gives your eyes something to settle on when you’re feeling stressed or uninspired.
Bringing different elements into your day-to-day help in creating a routine that works best for you.
Don’t worry so much on making your routine perfect, but make it for you.
Each day will be different but incorporating aspects like reading a new book or baking is extremely helpful in getting your mind off of the every-day stressors and just take some time for yourself.
Something I’ve found to be useful is creating a planner!
I love bullet journaling and if you haven’t gotten into bujo, you’re really missing out! During my weekend, I like to just plan out the week ahead and me and take a second to dive into what was done during the current week.
I’m extremely Type A when it comes to planning and making sure I’m organized helps me a lot in relaxing and de-stressing. I would hate to finish a nice, calming evening to remember I have a bill due or stress out at the last-minute over something that could have been done earlier.
Instead, I like to take my time on days that I can when it comes to pampering myself.
Sometimes while I have a face mask on or if I’m listening to a podcast, I’ll work on my planner or organize my expenses. Staying as stress-free as possible is key to a night of pampering, so whatever you can do beforehand helps!
Of course, I can’t say I pamper myself every week but now that I have a bit of extra time on my hands since moving it will definitely be changing!
